Picnic has one of those combinations that shouldn't work and then completely does. A soft, tonal gingham in cream and warm taupe sits inside a terracotta blush ruffle that's warm without being loud, feminine without being fussy.

Up close, the gingham reveals itself slowly. The check is almost entirely in the same family of warm neutrals, so it reads more like texture than pattern. The ruffle frames it with that same unhurried quality, gathered and soft, the kind of edge you want to touch.

Picnic has that quality where your room suddenly feels finished. Your room stops looking like a mood board and starts feeling like a home.

How to style Picnic

I styled Picnic with the matching quilt cover and pillowcases. The gingham and terracotta blush reverse are designed to work together, so your bed does most of the work before you add anything else.

I chose a botanical print with a timber frame above your bed, nothing too large. On the bedside table, a bud vase with a couple of billy buttons, just enough colour, is all you need.

The Picnic Bedhead Cushion paired with artwork does the heavy lifting. Let everything else stay quiet.

Created by someone who uses one every day

I wanted my bedroom to feel styled and intentional, without the morning pillow ritual that felt like too much effort every single day.

So I created the Arlem Bedhead Cushion. As beautiful as it is comfortable, and so easy to style! The idea came to me on a holiday in Queensland, and the day I got home I taught myself to sew, pouring my love of fabrics into every cushion. The first few hundred were hand sewn on my kitchen table in Adelaide, where I obsessed over every detail, shaping them soft enough to sink into yet structured enough to lean back against.

Today I still design every Bedhead Cushion, and use one on my own bed every day.
