If you spend any time sitting up in bed, you've probably done the pillow stack. Two pillows behind your back. Maybe three. It works for about five minutes before they compress, slide down, and leave you slouching.
A bedhead cushion fixes this. It's designed for sitting support, not sleeping. The difference is noticeable immediately.
The Problem with Stacked Pillows
Regular pillows are soft. That's the point. But soft doesn't help when you need support behind your back.
Stack a few pillows and lean against them. Within minutes they've compressed to half their height. You're constantly reaching behind to re-fluff them or add another one to the pile. By the time you've finished a chapter, you're hunched forward with your neck craned at an angle.

How a Bedhead Cushion Is Different
A bedhead cushion is firmer and denser than a sleeping pillow. The cotton fill holds its shape under pressure instead of compressing immediately.
It also spans the full width of your bed, so there's no gap between cushions and no pillow sliding off to one side. You lean back, it supports you, and it stays that way.
Better Posture Without Thinking About It
When your back is properly supported, you naturally sit more upright. You're not sliding down or curving your spine to compensate for collapsing pillows.
This takes pressure off your neck too. If you've noticed neck or shoulder tension after reading in bed, poor support is often the cause. Your body compensates for the lack of back support by tensing muscles in your upper back and neck.
What It's Good For
Anything where you're sitting up in bed:
- Reading. Books, Kindle, magazines. No more neck strain.
- Watching TV or streaming. Lean back properly instead of propping yourself on an elbow.
- Scrolling your phone. Yes, we all do it. At least do it comfortably.
- Working on a laptop. Not ideal for long sessions, but much better than pillows if you're answering emails.
- Breakfast in bed. Sit up straight without balancing.
It's Also Just Nicer
Beyond the practical benefits, having somewhere comfortable to sit in bed makes the space more usable. Your bed becomes a place to relax and unwind, not just a place to sleep.
If you're going to spend time in bed awake, you might as well be comfortable.
